SMART survey nutrition report-Mozambique

This report presents results of the nutrition survey conducted using the Rapid SMART Methodology in districts affected by armed conflict and others with a history of high vulnerability to acute malnutrition in Cabo Delgado province. The survey took place from 1 to 19 February this year. The main objective of the survey was to determine the prevalence of acute malnutrition (AD) in children aged 6-59 months in the district in general and in IDP accommodation centres. Other indicators were: prevalence of signs and symptoms of infectious disease in children and prevalence of malnutrition in Pregnant and Lactating Women (MGL). The survey was carried out in 8 districts, namely: Chiúre, Metuge, Montepuez, Ancuabe, Ibo, Mueda, Mecúfi and Palma, and in the IDP accommodation centres in Montepuez, Chiúre, Metuge and Palma.

The survey was cross-sectional, using cluster sampling/enumeration areas (AE), in three stages. The survey design was statistically representative for (a) the districts of Chiúre, Metuge, Montepuez, Ibo, Ancuabe, Mecúfi and Mueda, (b) the IDP accommodation centres in Metuge, Chiúre and Montepuez and (c) exhaustive for the IDP accommodation centres in Palma, where access was possible.
