In emergencies, when food supplies are often affected, women and girls are more likely to experience undernutrition or malnutrition than men and boys. Women and girls face unique hurdles when trying to access humanitarian services, including insecurity and discrimination. Issues of privacy and displacement can also negatively affect a breastfeeding woman’s ability to feed her child as well as her own health. The Gender and Gender-Based Violence (GBV) Workstream supports and guides nutrition practitioners to integrate gender equity and GBV risk mitigation into emergency nutrition programs and plays an active role within humanitarian conversations on gender and GBV risk mitigation.
