Message from the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) to all Permanent and Observer Missions and other International Organizations in New York and Geneva

We are pleased to share with you the Global Humanitarian Overview (GHO) April Monthly Funding Update with figures as of 30 April. The document is available through the following link: https://reliefweb.int/node/3631829

This month’s update highlights ten humanitarian crises to continue to focus on as the world battles COVID-19.

The Global Humanitarian Overview 2020 published on 4 December 2019 announced funding requirements of $28.8 billion to assist 108.8 million of the 167.6 million people in need in 53 countries. By the end of April, requirements had reached $31.82 billion to assist 117.1 million of the 180.1 million people in need in 57 countries (due to the addition and finalization of various documents, including the Needs and Priorities Plan for the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea in April). Humanitarian requirements will increase significantly on 7 May when the update of the Global Humanitarian Response Plan for COVID-19 (GHRP) is published.

As of 30 April, funding for the plans in the Global Humanitarian Overview (including the GHRP) had reached $4.25 billion, or 13.2% of total requirements due to the generous contributions of a wide and geographically diverse group of donors. This is a significant increase from the amount reported just one month ago (6.2%). For the most recent figures, see: https://fts.unocha.org/appeals/overview/2020

Total humanitarian funding has reached $7.66 billion in 2020. For the most recent figures, please see: https://fts.unocha.org/global-funding/overview/2020
