Trainings

The GNC supports countries, UNICEF as the Nutrition Cluster Lead Agency, and nutrition partners at subnational, national, regional, and global levels to ensure they are adequately staffed and skilled to prepare for, respond to, and recover from, situations of fragility (GNC Strategy – Strategic objective 1). This ambition, with agreement from partners, led to the creation of a structured multi-year GNC Capacity Strengthening project and has resulted in the development of competency frameworks on Nutrition Cluster Coordination, Information management and Nutrition in Humanitarian contexts, as well as a Capacity Strengthening Strategic Framework, that outlines GNCs 4 levels of capacity strengthening support: introductory (L1), general (L2), advanced (L3) and master (L4).

The purpose of this training is to create a pool of GNC certified trainers at global, regional, and country level, who can then train internal staff, other country clusters, or regional offices on the GNC Nutrition Cluster Coordination (NCC) Training package, as requested or following country cluster or regional officer capacity strengthening plans. This training empowers countries and provides them an opportunity to organise face-to-face and/or blended training events on nutrition cluster coordination. The training complements the GNC general level offer on nutrition cluster coordination, which is currently only available online on GNC-Learn.

The event is a 3-day in-person workshop and will take place from 14th to 16th of May 2024 in GSSC premises in Budapest, Hungary and will be conducted in English.

The training will be conducted in two parts and participants will receive a certificate upon completion:

  1. Pre-reading before the training to get familiar with the GNC Nutrition Cluster capacity strengthening offer and with the pre-designed Nutrition Cluster Coordination package (can take 4-5 hours, depending on individuals).
  2. Participation in various interactive activities during the training such as practical sessions and role playing to practice the contents of the NCC package.

The primary audience for this training includes country nutrition cluster coordinators, deputy cluster coordinators or any country-based staff acting as focal point for coordination – UNICEF or partner’s staff, regional UNICEF nutrition programme officers/advisors, members of the GNC consultant roster and members of the Standby Partnership.
